Austin is a city like no other in Texas. A haven for the cool and creative, musicians and music fans flock by the hundreds to this ‘Live Music Capital of the World’ for yearly festivals like Austin City Limits and South by Southwest.
Historic downtown Austin is the seat of Texas government, and the seat of fun and entertainment for locals and visitors. Congress Avenue is the main artery through the city centre, leading you to the impressive Texas State Capitol building at the end. Away from the hustle and bustle is tranquil Zilker Park, a 350 acre oasis in the heart of the city. Here you can wander through the Zilker Botanical Gardens, or take a dip in the inviting Barton Springs Pool, a natural spring where locals swim year round. A walk around Town Lake at sunset is a must.
Austin is also home to the University of Texas, where about 50,000 students are enrolled each year which ensures a fun and youthful atmosphere throughout the city.

Not many tourist things to do in Austin—can knock out in 2 days. So staying longer requires engaging in more local activities like Barton Springs and comedy shows. No grocery stores. Walkable for American standards—scooters helpful for further distances without a car. Otherwise, really enjoyed my trip. The capitol and Zilker is beautiful. Barton is amazing. There was some kind of race traffic on Saturday at The Domain, and took us about 45 minutes to get out of The Domain and we were actually late to an Easter church service, but that wasn't anyone's fault. I have been travelling to Austin since the 1990's and love this town. The beauty of the greenbelts and the lay out of the city is appealing. Austin in April was great!
Austin in April was great! Weather perfect for outdoors activities. LBJ Presidential library is phenomenal reminder of what a presidency can do FOR people. State Museum of Texas history also great exhibits covering all aspects of historical development. Driskill Hotel old and regal; very nice brunch available. Austin is a beautiful city and I highly recommend it. Lots of great sights, fun restaurants and nightlife as well as friendly ppl and there is an abundance of things to do for every age group. I did find it a bit expensive but there are lots of great places to eat that are more affordable if you look around. A lot of ppl said you need a car in Austin but I thought it was very walkable and Ubers/Waymo (self driving cars) are everywhere and they are not too expensive. We were there in early March so the weather was great however we were warned many times about the heat later on in spring and summer.Guest review byAmandaCanada - Review score
Taxis are EXPENSIVE!
Taxis are EXPENSIVE! Car rentals sounded reasonable BUT parking at hotel ridiculous rates upwards of $50.00 per DAY..KC your resorts policy... Enjoyed the in town experience a block away from the Capitol.. Couple blocks away from downtown(6th street) night life Good restaurants everywhere.. The Metro bus was fun to use for shopping.. 24 hr pass was $2.50... Nobody harassing on the street(daytime) Don’t know about after hours.. I go to Austin every year..
